Odor absorbers & air fresheners

Fridge It: Hurricane Odor Absorber – How to remove the odors that Hurricane Irene leaves behind.

Hurricane Irene leave behind odors from the storm as well as from refrigerators that had no power and from the clean up that will take many weeks were odors can grow.   Odor absorbers are needed right now to place in many areas of your homes and businesses after hurricanes  hit.   The news of a big hurricane hitting the east coast reminds me of the odor removal lessons learned from the gulf coast,  Florida and Texas  storms regarding smells that will need to be removed and the general  odor and odor control from Irene.  In talking with the manufacturer of Fridge It activated charcoal odor absorbers and Innofresh Odor Eliminator that during the last big hurricane disaster, they always get a huge number of online orders and calls for their product Fridge It odor absorbing cubes  and Innofresh Odor Eliminators.  They have to go into additional production for months after the storm.

It is non toxic and completely safe. It is cheap, under $5 for each cube or flat wafer. The odor control does not mask the odor with a strong scent that may aggravate allergies. It is a convenient size. 3″ x 3″ or smaller , so you can use many around the house and not have it seem obvious. It last 4 to 6 months, so this will keep on working for you.   An average room will need 6 to really see some results.  Each cube works by pulling odors from an area approx 6 x 6 feet.  They do have case pricing and when you order a case, it comes with free shipping.

The reason  to use a naturally activated charcoal odor absorbers is:  Simply it works fast, it needs no electricity to work and the filters absorbs large amounts of odor in the porous charcoal. Natures best odor absorbing material is carbon. Fridge It has taken it and added advanced porous technology and air flow design for maximum odor absorption.  Even after the electric is back on and you clean out the refrigerator, it will still stink.  Thus they get many orders and calls weeks after the storm for Fridge It odor absorbers.

The Charcoal traps odor and more importantly neutralizes air-borne odor, not mask them with a scented spray. The Innofresh odor eliminators or the Fridge It Cube odor absorbers requires no battery or electricity, so it can be put to work absorbing odors right away, even before the electricity can be turned back on.

Fridge  It works on all sorts of odors: refrigerator odor and freezer smells. smoke from cigarettes, food spills, pets, dead mouse smell and other musty odors a hurricane will create.  It will not work on mold or things that are actually water damaged or water-soaked, you need professional help for that type of extraction. Once the water has been extracted, and a mold spray has happened, then the odor absorbers are effective.

If you need to protect valuables from the water damage,   Fridge It  activated charcoal odor absorber works well if you use it in the plastic bags to protect or water proof your clothes you saved and want to protect during the clean up process. You toss a Fridge It cube or Innofresh wafer odor absorber into the plastic bag and sealed the bag and the clean clothes stay odor free.

As the house dries out the odors start thus placing non effected clothes and linens, toys and other things you do not want to damage in the dry out process in sealed bags with an odor absorber will prevent the odors from transferring to those items.

For those looking for the product, you can get them online or go to the Innofresh.com website to find retailers that carry the product.  You can buy Fridge It retail and online  at:  Innofresh.com,  Amazon, Camping World, Sur La Table and at US Military Commissaries across the county.  Yes military base stores.  As  Innofresh Auto odor absorber  you can get them at these auto supply stores: Checker Auto, Schucks, Auto, Kragen Auto, Murrys Auto.  It will work for more than auto, just focused on auto for the auto segment and the manufacturer knows you may be looking where ever there is inventory to buy or contact the manufacturer by email at customerservice@innofresh.com or their website at www.innofresh.com.  They can also ship direct to you in lots of 6, 12 24 or case lots or more or direct you to online stores that carry it if you want less than 6 at a time.

Removing a smell coming from kitchen cabinets.

I get lots of search requests on getting rid of odors or smells from kitchen cabinets.  Many are from homeowner who have just remodeled  their kitchen with brand new kitchen cabinets. The cabinets look like a dream, but the are very unhappy that the new cabinets ooze a horrible cabinet odors and stinky glue smell.  So bad they wished they had not changed the cabinets out.

The other type of cabinet odor removal search is from owners of homes that have lived in thier homes for many years or new home buyers who have just moved in and cannot stand the last owners odors left in their cabinets. The common complaint is there is an unpleasant odor coming from the kitchen when I open my kitchen cabinets.  Odors can also come from bathroom and garage cabinets,  as well as dresser draws.  The question searched always is: How do I get rid of this kitchen cabinet odor?

You can mask the odor with a scented over-spray. An air freshener will do this covering of odors for a short term fix.  If you are looking for get rid of the odor for good so you don’t smell it then you need to get an activated charcoal odor absorber like FridgeIt.    Fridge It odor absorbers have been used for over 10 years for cabinet and draw odors with great results.

Just place one odor absorber inside each cabinet and you will notice the odors will be absorbed. They last up to 6 months, so this is long term odor elimination and absorption.

Kitchen Odors need a targeted approach for elimination.

There is plenty of good, and not so good, advise about eliminating kitchen and household odors and in particular, getting rid of the odors and smells that come from the kitchen.   Other than the noticeable odors that are from the bathrooms, or perhaps the room with the 3 cats and their litter boxes in the house, the kitchen usually in the culprit for the majority of the odor or “house smell” that is noticed almost immediately when entering a home or apartment.  The reason is that there are more sources of odor from that one room – the kitchen, than all other combined areas of the home.   As you walk into your home, likely first impression will come from the nose if it’s bad.  Instead, if the smell is clean and fresh, then you’re more likely to impress visitors with a pleasant welcome that says that you care.

To effectively combat against kitchen odors, you need to take a targeted approach to each of the problems or sources of odor and not try to eliminate the odors by simply spraying some “odor eliminator” into the air.   These do very little to eliminate the odor for good.  What you need is to be armed with effective and specific solutions.

There are plenty of products that are available to clean surfaces and counter-tops and for the most part they are all good.   Thankfully now, many “natural” products are available that are as good as or better than some leading brands.   Keeping surfaces clean regularly and also immediately after use is always an important and easy way to reduce odor build-up in the first place.   But, no matter how diligent you are, there are specific problem areas that you need to address.

Refrigerator- You would be surprised to learn how much a smelly refrigerator can lead to a smelly kitchen, not to mention having your strawberries taste like onions and your ham like fish.   It’s of course important to keep your refrigerator clean from spills but to actually eliminate lingering odors, go for the power of activated carbon in a product like Fridge It activated carbon odor absorbers.   The natural, fragrance free activated carbon filter literally soaks up odors better than baking soda, coffee, and vinegar combined.   All you have to do is hang or place one on each shelf for incredible effectiveness.  Also Fridge It can be used with great results in your freezer too if your ice is tasting or smelling off.

Garbage/Trash area – The smell of garbage can quickly permeate the entire house.   To eliminate this problem, again use the power of activated carbon.  Fridge It odor absorbers easily clip on to, or hang from trash cans.  Just keep a couple near by your trash can and odors get stopped in their tracks.

Garbage Disposal –  There are several ways to keep odors away here.  Pouring baking soda down the drain with water helps but another product that does a nice job is Plink Disposal Cleaner.   The unique little balls break open to deodorize the disposal and dissolve some of the oil and fat build ups that are causing the smell.

Stove Top Vent – As grease and oils build up, so will odors.   Use a natural lemon or orange based degreaser to wipe away build ups.  These products effectively cut through grease so you can easily wipe it away and leaves no residue.   There are several effective and natural cleaners available for this.

Cabinets – Cabinets are another unsuspecting source of kitchen odor as they store food, oil, damp dashes and glasses and other assorted kitchen items.    A great way to eliminate this as a cause for kitchen odors is to place a FRIDGE IT odor absorber in each cabinet, getting rid of the odor at the source.

Under Sink – Another area that is a culprit for odors resulting from moisture, trash and storage is definitely under the sink.   This is another great place for hanging or placing a couple of FRIDGE IT activated carbon odor absorbers.  It’s that easy.

So, the bottom line is keep your kitchen surfaces and floors clean but use activated carbon odor absorbers like FRIDGE IT for targeted areas and natural greaser’s and deodorizes for garbage disposals and hood vents.

You can get odors out of books and magazines.

If you have a book with odors such as smoke or musty smell and you  tried airing them out and you wondered how to get that book odor smell out of them?   Use a Fridge It cube odor absorber placed inside a plastic bag with the odor absorber and leave some air space in the bag and seal the bag for  gaining control of your book odor issue.

Fridge It absorbs the odors quickly.  If you do not want your other books or magazines to pick up the smell from the book you will need to isolate the book until the odor is removed. it will not work for books that are water damages and wet.  The books or magazines need to be dry when you attempt to use the odor absorber.

It is the same product that absorbs odors from refrigerators and freezers.  The activated carbon can absorb and trap the odors in any enclosed space with airflow,  just like it does a fridge.  Just as it works great for purses with odors or smells from music cases or guitar cases.  Anything that has an enclosed area that it can remove odor from.

If you cannot enclose the absorber in the object than place the object in a plastic bag and place the Fridge It odor absorber in with it and seal the bag. This works for any item with odor, or anything that may have picked up an odor you are having and issue with.

When odors are a nuisance, time to find out the where, what, how and who.

When odors become a nuisance, it is time to find out why.  Odor creates an early warning system that alerts the nose that something going on around you  is not right and begins to irritate your nose, sending signals to the brain and creates a pain point with odor. You then smell  the odor, think of it as something you need to fix, clean, or investigate.

There can be good odors such as a camp fire, or onions cooking, but in most cases, odors mean something needs to be cleaned or fixed. If you smell smoke you look for a fire, if you smell odors you look for the source.

The thing about odor is it is very persistent. It keeps bugging you until you do something about it.  Doing something often leads to a search on the Internet as you try to describe the odor to a search engine and seek a solutions. You would rather tell a computer your odor problem then your friends and family.

The first step is to identify “where” the odor is coming from.  The where can tell you many things about how to get rid of  the odor or bad stinky smell.  Is it fixed by simply  just throwing  a dirty diaper? Or is it more serious, like something stinks and it is coming from inside a wall or coming from your closet, kitchen, fridge, freezer, shoe rack or car?

Once you have identified the general area of the odor, that the “what” comes in.  What kind of odor is it?  Is it a smelly sneaker? Is it a cooked fish smell or a smelly carpet or a cat litter box? is it something you can smell put cannot see?

Once you know the what, then the question can be searched on “how” do I get rid of the specific odor? Or if you can get even more specific: How to I get rid of the odor in my refrigerator? Or even more specific in detail like, how do I get rid of the onion odor in my ice maker in the freezer. The more specific you can be the better the solution will be.

This leads to the “who” of odors.  Who should I trust and choose to fix my problem.  Is is a search that leads you to a  product like an odor absorber? What is the product about?  Is it environmentally friendly? Can it really fix the problem and keep it solved in the longterm. Read the label, is the product non toxic? Is it fragrance free or scented.  What are the warnings.

Do I need an air freshener spray that will fix the problem right now, or I need to call in someone who will do the job like a carpet cleaner or a mold specialist?

Yes ,odors are a nuisance and thank goodness they are, so in their own way odors help you.  They give you the heads up that you need to get rid of that odor or smelly problem right away. Happy odor web searching.
